Memphis Movement: A Labor of Love

So you’ve probably seen my posts or ads about my documentary film Memphis Movement: Jookin’ the Urban Ballet this week. I’m really excited to finally be able to share it with the world. I started the project way back in 2009 as the honors thesis for my film degree, and have done a few updates since then. Some new footage, new interviews, etc. There was a period of pause while negotiating, and having issues with potential distribution methods, which really weighed on me as a filmmaker.  It’s truly been a labor of love for me getting this story out to you and the world.

Even if dance is not something that immediately interests you, I really encourage you to take some time out of your day this weekend to sit down and check it out in its entirety. It will expand your horizons, and you won’t regret it Continue reading…

Birthday Letter to a Younger Me

Significant times of the year always make me contemplative. I usually pour my thoughts into my personal journal which only myself and a few others have ever seen. But this year, as I approach a certain age, I decided I’d write something to myself at age 12. A summation of a few things I feel like I’ve learned. Some advice. A few promises I intend to keep. To Me. Continue reading…

Everything wrong with Starbucks

Everything Wrong with Starbucks

This may be off the beaten path of my usual posts but I’ve to get this off of my chest. I hate Starbucks! There I said it…Well obviously it’s not an “I hate it so much that I’d never go there”, type of hate.

I actually enjoyed that eggnog latte I’m holding in the picture …. I also enjoyed the free WI-Fi… and to put it out there, if Starbucks ever wanted to sponsor me…I’d sign. (just disregard that second sentence guys!)

I guess my hate is more of an “I hate it because I don’t understand it” type of hate. Like racism.

Yeah. I’m racist against Starbucks…

you know…I can hang out with it..but if my son ever brought one home to marry… I’d throw a fit

Gratitude Graphic

The POWER of Gratitude

I’m not going to get all preachy about Thanksgiving. Like all holiday’s its origin has its pros and cons and it’s “All in good Fun”. Hell, who doesn’t want a ton of good food and a day off? I do feel like it’s a perfect time to talk about the power of Gratitude though. Continue reading…

The law of the Struggle blog

The Law of the Struggle

I hate the saying “everything happens for a reason.” “Who’s reason?” and “How do you know this?” are my immediate thoughts. I don’t like to think that there is a “reason” behind every painful and unpleasant experience we face. But there is a law in this universe (like gravity) that no significant progress or growth comes without a little discomfort, a little struggle, and breaking through some resistance.  Continue reading…

YEs You! Assessing your beliefs

YES YOU

When we are children, most of us are presented with this idea: You can be whatever you want to be when you grow up. But somewhere along the line many of us lose sight of this. We begin to form these notions that certain things are only suited to a special class of individuals with superb natural talents, or a special affinity for ideas or creativity. And while to some degree this is true, I believe that within all of us is the capacity to achieve what we have in our hearts to go after, as long as we avoid the pitfalls of a “yeah, but that’s not me” mentality. Continue reading…

Health pros and cons of Pokemon Go

The Health Pros and Cons of Pokemon Go

We could discuss why a grown man is writing about a game he should have been done with after middle school, OOR we can talk about how the new Pokemon Go app is a revolutionary advancement in the health and gaming industries and how, as a fitness professional, it is my obligation to inform you about these advancements. So now that we have that out of the way, I’m going to discuss what I see as the health implications of this new App. Continue reading…

peace amid the chaos-Blog

Peace amid the Chaos

In life it often seems like chaos is the norm, and peace has to be claimed, fought for, Won. And I’m not just talking about physical peace as in the opposite of war, I’m talking about inner-peace. The type of peace that allows you to get a full-night’s sleep despite the myriad of problems going on in the world, in your wallet, or in your relationships. The type of peace that defies all logic. Because by the looks of things, everyone should probably be going crazy all of the time.

#YourlifeMatters Your Life Matters

#YourLifeMatters

I’m a person who likes to have answers. But in the wake of the recent shootings I’ve felt numb, helpless. No solutions. I hate it. But I feel like I have to say something. It’s what I do. Express myself with words. But it seems like every phrase nowadays inflames someone. If I say #Blacklivesmatter then there will be those who get offended thinking that by saying this, I’m saying that other lives don’t matter.
