How Self-Promotion Works in an Online World

As a creative professional you know that you need to “get yourself out there” so that your work and ideas can be recognized, but the online wold can be a bit overwhelming when it comes to promoting yourself.

There are a lot of strategies and nuanced ways to enhance your reach and effectiveness but one has to make sure that they are doing the basics to get the best out of internet-land. Below, I’ve boiled down some of the basic tips I’ve seen around the internet. Put these into action to get more leverage as you grow your image online.

Social Media

This is the one that I struggle with, but I’m working on it. If you aren’t on social media already, you are missing out big time. It isn’t just something fun to post your meals and selfies on. You should be using every relevant social medium available to you if for no other reason than they are free.

Start a profile on the big ones first: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. Curate your content as often as you can, posting something that is meaningful to you and positions you in the right light, based on who you want to be seen as. That way, you’ll start to grow a following organically. It won’t happen overnight, but with persistence it will. Create new, innovative content that shows off who you are. Boring, or traditional posts won’t garner the attention you need for real promotion.

Web Page/Funnel

Another aspect I’m really trying to work on. If you have content for sale, stop viewing your webpage as a webpage. It is a sales funnel. Every step, image, and part of your site should direct the visitor to take some kind of action. Maybe it is sharing you content, signing up for your email list, or buying a product. The days of websites being flat, dead brochures and business cards are long gone. Today, you need dynamic website marketing to promote yourself properly.

YouTube

The reality is, video is more powerful online than ever before. People want authenticity and engagement. If you can be a personality that they like, you will find your brand growing rapidly.

Coding

Learning to code can be a great way to promote yourself and gain some online basics. It is an incredibly valuable skill, especially if you learn a web language like JavaScript. Taking a quick angular JS tutorial will give you an edge when designing and promoting your site, plus the benefit of gaining a lifelong skillset.

When it comes to promoting yourself online, there are a lot of common pitfalls to avoid. It is crucial you have the right tips and techniques, so you can avoid them and instead take advantage of big chances to improve your brand. Don’t miss out on more profit and growth for your image this year, get the exposure you deserve by putting the self-promotion strategies above into use today.

I hope this was helpful to you if you’re trying to get a better grasp of how to push yourself online. We all know that we need to get ourselves out there, and I hope this can be a good starting point for you.

As always, great things are on the horizon for you. Take care.
